ChartAcc.com - "Too big to fail" is a term that signifies the huge interconnections of certain financial institutions into the economy get so deep that their failure could bring credit crunch. Government takes interest in good health of these banks and ready for providing remedial measures in case of any difficulty.
These banks are also called Systemically Important Financial Institution (SIFI). TBTF was used by Stewart McKinney (U.S. Congressman) in a 1984.
TBTF banks or financial institutions qualify for beneficial financial and economic policies from governments or central banks.

ChartAcc.com - OREO assets are the ones owned by a bank that is not directly related to banking business. These are considered as non-earning assets for purposes of Bank / Regulatory accounting.
OREO is collateral against the loan given which is owned due to default default by borrower.
These are generally classified as Available For Sale (AFS).
Growth in OREO indicates deteriorating credit for the bank with growing non-earning assets.

Once a group of 50 people was attending a seminar.
Suddenly the speaker stopped and started giving each one a balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room.
Now these delegates were let in that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written, within 5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their name, colliding with eachother, pushing around others and there was utter chaos.
At the end of 5 minutes no one could find their own balloon.
Now each one was asked to randomaly collect a balloon and give it to the the person whose name was written on it.
Within minutes everyone had their own balloon.
The speaker began--- Exactly this is happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is.
Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give them their happiness, you will get your own happiness.
And this is the purpose of human life. So what is yours?

Reserve Bank of India decided to withdraw all currency notes issued prior to 2005. From 1 April 2014, the public will be required to approach banks for exchanging these notes. Notes issued prior to 2005 have not got year of printing on the reverse side.
From July 01, 2014, non-customers exchanging notes INR 500 and INR 1,000 rupee notes (more than 10 pieces) will be required to furnish proof of identity and residence.

Net of payments are exchanged on a fixed interest rate for payments based on a floating rate, often LIBOR.
- An agreement in between 2 parties
- to make interest payments to each other
- for a set period
- based upon a notional principal (Used for calculation only, no risk is attached to it.)
The fixed rate is known as the swap rate.
Example:
Party A pays a fixed rate to to party B and receives a variable rate in exchange from party B.
Uses:
- to hedge against interest rate exposure,
- to speculate on future interest rate movements
- to obtain a higher yield on assets.

- An asset or debt
- that does not appear on a company's balance sheet.
Impact:
- Company does not have legal claim or responsibility for.
Examples:
- Operating Lease
- Loans that are securitized and sold off as investments
- Partnerships, Joint ventures, Controlling Interests
OBS in relation to BASEL:
- Not showing liabilities in the Balance Sheet means overcasting of Financial resources
- Financial Rations can be manipulated like Debt : Equity Ratio
